TEEN THERAPY

Just like adulthood, adolescence is full of challenges. Therapy offers a supportive space for your teen to talk about their struggles, explore who they are, learn skills to cope with life's stressors, and build a healthier emotional foundation for the future.

Teens experience stress, too.

Teenage years can be tumultuous, filled with numerous challenges that may feel overwhelming. Whether your teen is grappling with anxiety, academic pressures, self-esteem issues, or friendships, the weight of these struggles can take a significant toll on their mental health, leaving them feeling isolated or misunderstood. These challenges are real, but your teen doesn’t have to face them alone.

In therapy, your teen will find a safe and supportive space where they can openly discuss their struggles without fear of judgment. Together, we’ll help them understand and process their emotions, explore their identity, and navigate the complexities of life with greater confidence. By learning effective coping skills and building resilience, your teen can develop the tools they need to thrive, fostering a sense of empowerment and emotional well-being as they move toward a brighter, more balanced future.

How Teen Therapy Will Help

Teenagers are navigating a period of life that is genuinely difficult. Identity, friendships, academic pressure, family dynamics, and the constant noise of social media all arrive at the same time — often before a teen has the emotional tools to handle any of it well. Youth therapy offers a space where all of that can be brought out into the open without judgment, and where real skills can be built.

The first step in teen therapy is simply building a relationship. Everything else follows from there.

1.

Building a Trusting Relationship

Many teenagers arrive in therapy feeling skeptical, uncomfortable, or unsure of what to say. That's completely normal and entirely expected. The first and most important phase of working with a teen is demonstrating, through consistent presence and genuine curiosity, that this is a space where they will not be judged, lectured, or pressured to share before they are ready. Trust is built over time. We don't rush it.

2.

Understanding and Processing Emotions

Adolescence brings emotional intensity that can feel confusing and overwhelming. Teens often don't have the language for what they're feeling, let alone the tools to manage it. Therapy helps them slow down and develop a clearer understanding of their emotional experience, including where certain feelings come from and how to work with them, rather than against them

3.

Building Healthy Coping Skills and Self-Esteem

Schools rarely teach teenagers how to manage significant stress, anxiety, or emotional pain in healthy ways. Through therapy, teens develop practical coping strategies they can reach for when things get hard. Alongside this, therapy helps them challenge the negative beliefs they hold about themselves and develop a more honest, compassionate relationship with who they are.

4.

Navigating School, Friendships, and Family

Many of the most significant stressors in a teenager's life show up in specific relationships and environments. Therapy helps teens develop practical skills for navigating difficult friendships, family dynamics, and academic pressure in ways that feel manageable and aligned with who they are becoming.

WHAT SESSIONS ACTUALLY FEEL LIKE

Sessions are warm, conversational, and never clinical in tone. Your teen won't be put on the spot or asked to talk about something before they're ready. Some sessions will feel productive and focused. Others will be quieter, more exploratory. Both are part of the process. What stays consistent is that your teen has a reliable space each week that belongs entirely to them.

IF YOUR TEEN IS UNSURE ABOUT THERAPY

The first step in teen therapy is building a relationship and showing your teen that they won't be judged or pressured.

It’s very common for teens to feel unsure about therapy — or even resistant to the idea at first. Some teens come because a parent suggested it. Others aren’t sure what to say, or don’t fully trust the process yet. That doesn’t mean therapy won’t help.

We don’t expect your teen to open up right away.

In fact, the first step is simply building a relationship — showing them, over time, that this is a space where they won’t be judged, pressured, or forced to talk before they’re ready. Sometimes progress looks like talking. Sometimes it looks like sitting quietly, or keeping things surface-level at first.

Both are okay.

What matters is that your teen has a consistent space where they can start to feel more comfortable being themselves — at their own pace.

We're ready when you are.

You don't have to have everything figured out before reaching out. Whether you know exactly what you need or you're still finding the words, this is a good place to start.

Teens' Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Will my parents be involved in my therapy sessions?

Your privacy and confidentiality will be the most important thing to us, so if we feel it would be beneficial to invite your parent to a session, we would discuss it with you first. You will always have the right to discuss boundaries and preferences regarding how involved your parents are with your therapy.

Q: How do I find a therapist I feel comfortable with?

One of the most important factors in successful therapy is finding the right therapist for you! When looking for a therapist, consider factors like their areas of specialization, approach, personality, and availability. The best thing to do is schedule a 15-minute consultation with your potential therapist to see if you connect with them.

Q: Will you tell my parents what I say in session?

This is a question many teens have, and it's a very good one! Maintaining your confidentiality is one of your therapist's most important jobs, as we have strict standards we have to follow to protect your privacy. What you discuss in therapy sessions will be kept confidential, even from your parents, except in very specific circumstances where there may be a risk of harm to yourself or others. Your therapist will explain confidentiality to you during your first session, and we encourage you to ask any questions you have!

Q: How do I know if I could benefit from youth counselling?

If you're finding it hard to cope with stress, emotions, or daily life, therapy can provide valuable support. Signs you might benefit from therapy include feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or sad most of the time, struggling to manage relationships, or experiencing significant changes in your behaviour or mood.

Q: What is the fee for a teen therapy session?

A 50-minute session is $155.
